Citations and sources

An answer is only as good as its source. Oxonia shows where every AI answer came from, so people can check it in seconds.

Why citations matter

Universities teach students to cite their sources. Oxonia holds itself to the same standard. A cited answer can be checked. An uncited one has to be trusted. In a university, that is not good enough.

How each product cites

  • Oxonia Scribe. Each point in a lecture summary is cited to the minute, so students jump straight to that moment in the recording.
  • Oxonia Library. Every answer cites the document and page it came from, from the university's own theses, past papers, journals and reports.
  • Oxonia Mark. Each mark quotes the exact words in the script that earned it.
  • Oxonia Tutor. The tutor quotes the PDF readings the lecturer set. The report quotes the tutorial.
  • Oxonia Senate. Ask Senate searches past decisions and minutes, with citations.
  • Oxonia Compass. Each dashboard figure shows its source. The weekly brief has a source for every line.
  • Oxonia AI Hub. Answers about the university's AI rules quote the clause from the approved policy.

Sources from the university itself

Wherever possible, Oxonia answers from the university's own material. That means answers reflect the university's own teaching, rules and history, not general knowledge from somewhere else. Old typed and handwritten theses can be digitised into Oxonia Library, so decades of the university's research become searchable and citable. Thesis digitising is £0.05 per page.

When there is no good source

If Oxonia cannot find a good source, it should say so rather than guess. In Oxonia Mark, uncertain answers go to the review queue with a confidence score. In Library and Senate, an answer that cannot be supported should be clearly marked as such.

Checking a citation

  1. Read the answer.
  2. Select the citation.
  3. Oxonia opens the source at the right place: the minute, the page or the clause.
  4. Decide whether the answer is fair to the source.

Citations and academic integrity

Students who use AI in their own work need to cite it too. Oxonia AI Hub teaches students to use AI well and collects their AI-use declarations for each assessment. Oxonia Policy sets the levels of allowed AI use per module. See AI fair use and AI principles.
