Modern slavery

Modern slavery statement

Modern slavery includes forced labour, servitude and human trafficking. This statement sets out the steps Oxonia Academy takes to prevent it in our business and supply chain.

1. About this statement

Last updated: 10 October 2026.

This statement is made by Oxford City Academy for Education and Development (OAED), of which Oxonia Academy is part. Oxonia Academy is part of Oxford City Academy for Education and Development (OAED), registered in England and Wales, company number 05216710, established 2004, Oxford. It is made voluntarily in the spirit of section 54 of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015. The Act requires a statement only from organisations above a turnover threshold, and we publish one because our customers, many of them public universities, expect it. It covers the financial year ending [Financial year end].

2. Our business

Oxonia Academy provides an online platform to universities in the UK, the EU, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, the Gulf, Malaysia and Turkey. Our work is mainly done by software, design, support and sales staff. The platform is designed and built by HBZ Group Ltd.

3. Our supply chain

  • Hosting, storage and software services.
  • AI services used by the platform.
  • Payment and messaging providers.
  • People who check captions, where universities buy human-checked captions.
  • People who help digitise typed and handwritten theses, where universities buy thesis digitising.
  • Professional services, such as legal and accounting, and office equipment and devices.

4. Where risk is higher

We consider the risk of modern slavery in our own operations to be low. Risk may be higher where work is done by people outside our staff, such as caption checking and digitising, and in the manufacture of hardware. We focus our checks there.

5. Policies and due diligence

  • Our anti-bribery policy and this statement apply to staff, contractors and partners.
  • Supplier contracts include terms that prohibit forced labour and trafficking and require fair pay.
  • We ask higher-risk suppliers about their own policies and working conditions before we appoint them, and review them when concerns arise.
  • We may end a relationship if problems are not put right.
  • Staff and suppliers can raise concerns confidentially, without fear of reprisal.

6. Training and measuring progress

Staff who choose and manage suppliers are briefed on the signs of modern slavery. We will report in future statements on the number of higher-risk suppliers reviewed and any concerns raised and how they were resolved.

7. Reporting a concern

If you have a concern about modern slavery connected to our business, email legal@oxonia.ai. In the UK you can also call the Modern Slavery and Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700.

8. Approval

This statement was approved by the board of Oxford City Academy for Education and Development (OAED) on [Board approval date] and signed by [Director name and title].
