Languages

Oxonia is built for universities where students and staff speak more than one language. The screens, the captions and the tutorials can follow the person, not the platform.

Screens in your language

The launcher, Oxonia Senate, Office, Compass, Policy, Advance, Wallet and AI Hub can be used in more than 15 languages, including English, French, Portuguese, Arabic, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Nigerian Pidgin, Turkish, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, Malay, Indonesian, Chinese and Japanese. Oxonia Scribe and Tutor screens can be switched into more than 20 languages, translated by AI. Oxonia Mark, Research and Library are in English, French, Portuguese and Arabic. Oxonia Nexus is in English for now. Each person chooses their own language. A lecturer can work in English while a student on the same course uses the screens in French.

Arabic screens read right to left.

Live captions in many languages

In Oxonia Scribe, students switch the live captions while the lecture runs. Captions are available in many languages, including Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Arabic, French, Portuguese and Swahili. A student who finds the lecture language hard can follow along in their own.

Universities that need captions checked by a person can add human-checked captions at £0.90 per minute.

Tutorials at a natural pace

Oxonia Tutor runs tutorials in English and many other languages, including Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Arabic, French and Portuguese, at a natural pace. Students can talk through their essay in the language they think in. The tutor's report is quoted from the tutorial itself.

Study packs that follow the lecture

Summaries, key moments, mind maps, quizzes and audio recaps come from each recorded lecture. Each point in the summary is cited to the minute, so a student can jump to the moment they missed and hear it again.

Why it matters

  • Students who learn in a second language can follow the lecture as it happens, not afterwards.
  • Universities that teach in both English and French, or English and Arabic, can use one platform.
  • Guardians and sponsors can use Oxonia Wallet in a language they are comfortable with.

See Oxonia Learn and Oxonia Teach.

Accessibility

Captions and audio recaps also help deaf and hard of hearing students, students with dyslexia and anyone revising on the move. See the accessibility statement.

Common questions

Can a lecturer teach in English while students read French captions? Yes. That is what live captions in Scribe are for. Each student chooses their own caption language.

Are captions checked by people? Captions are Ai enabled by default. Human-checked captions are an add-on at £0.90 per minute.

Which languages are coming next? Tell us which languages your students need when you book a demo. New languages will be announced in the release notes.
