Google sign-in
Google Workspace
If your university runs on Google Workspace, staff and students sign in to Oxonia with the Google account they already use.
Sign in with Google
The Oxonia Academy ID links to the university's Google sign-in. On the sign-in page, people choose their university's button and sign in with their university Google account.
There is no separate Oxonia password to remember or reset.
Who is in, who is out
The university's Google administrator stays in control of accounts. When someone joins and is given a role in Oxonia, they can sign in. When their Google account is closed, their access to Oxonia ends too.
Your security rules apply
If the university already asks for a second step when people sign in with Google, the same rule protects Oxonia. See Access controls and 2FA.
What people see next
After sign-in, each person sees the app launcher with only the products the university has bought and their role allows. A student sees Scribe, Tutor, AI Hub and Wallet. A lecturer sees Scribe, Tutor and Mark. See Roles and permissions.
Setting it up
- An admin opens the university admin console.
- They choose Google as the sign-in method.
- The university's Google administrator approves the connection.
- The university's button appears on the Oxonia sign-in page.
Mixing sign-in methods
Some universities use Google for students and Microsoft 365 for staff. Others use SAML and Shibboleth. Oxonia can use more than one method for the same university, so each group keeps the account it already has.
Common questions
Does Oxonia see Google passwords? No. People sign in on Google's own screen. Oxonia receives confirmation of who they are.
Can we use Google for some faculties only? Yes. The university can use Google for some people and another method for others.
Does this cost extra? No. Sign-in with Google is part of the platform. See the pricing page for product prices.
If your university later adds other sign-in methods, people keep the same Oxonia Academy ID and the same roles. Nothing they have done in Oxonia is lost when the sign-in method changes. Ask our onboarding team to plan any change with your IT team.
